Are you considering investing in more environmentally technology for your home? Perhaps it is time to consider investing in a Heat Pump System. This article will provide you with a brief and simple overview of the three main types of heat pump systems available across the UK and Europe. But for those of you who are new to the concept of heat pumps it is time to give quick overview.
Heat Pumps are eco-friendly technology that tap into the naturally occuring heat sources that surround us. These natural heat sources are found in the surrounding air and water and beneath the ground outside. Using a certain technique Heat Pump systems tap into the naturally occuring heat source, whether that is in the air, earth or water, and increase its energy level until is suitable enough to provide both living space warmth and heat to keep our water supplies hot. As mentioned above, there are three main types of heat pump. Each of these are described below.
Air Source Heat Pumps are the simplest and cheapest heat pump system to install. If you are looking to obtain 100% of your home heating and hot water from a heat pump system then the Air Source Heat Pump is probably your best choice. This type of heat pump does not require any digging or underground pipework. The Air Source Heat Pump is ideal as it can be set-up inside or outside your property, and being only the size of a standard air-conditioning unit it really does not take up too much space. This type of heat pump system is also relatively quiet when in operation, making no more noise than a typical dishwasher.
The next type of heat pump is the Ground Source Heat Pump. This category of heat pump system makes use of the heat approximately one metre beneath the surface of the ground where the temperature is a constant 10 degrees. Using a series of pipe loops the heat pump draws out heat from underground. This type of heat pump is silent in operation and because a lot of the technology is underground remain mostly unseen. You will need to pay more for an Air Source heat pump, but it does produce heat more efficiently.
The next category of heat pump are Water Source heat pumps, and as you can probably imagine make use of a water source to produce heat. With similar workings to the Ground Source heat pump, the pipes are submerged into a local water source such as a lake, or even stream or river. Again, this type of heat pump system can be expensive to install, but once in operation works extremely efficiently. It also remains mostly out of site and is silent in operation.
So those are the main types of heat pumps systems on the UK market. Whichever one you choose you can be sure of reliability and long life span. Heat pump technology has been around for a long time and systems can last up to 25 years.
